Creative Writing Classes Offered

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s culture and recreation department is offering creative writing classes entitled “Turn Memories Into Memoirs” at the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, 3850 E. Ave. S in Palmdale.

The classes will be held on Wednesdays from Sept. 4 through Dec. 18, with both morning and evening times available. They will be presented by local poet, author, and teacher Anne Yale.  Cost for the class is $40.

“Everyone has a story inside them, just waiting to be told,” said Yale. “If you’re looking for a unique and creative gift to give your children or grandchildren, what could be better than a gift that only you can give?”

Participants can expect to learn how to trigger memories, hone their powers of observation, discover their best stories, and use descriptive and narrative techniques to present them in a clear, concise fashion.

“Americans hunger for stories of their family’s past,” added Yale.  “Especially since everyone is so mobile these days, we want connections. We want to know where we come from, how we got here. The younger generation – people in their twenties and thirties – are particularly curious about this. I guarantee you, the gift of your personal or family stories will be treasured by your descendants for generations to come.”

“We’re very excited to offer creative writing classes,” said Palmdale’s Recreation Coordinator Becky Errea.  “Writing can be so much fun and it’s a great way for people to use their imaginations and express themselves.”

Yale will also present a poetry writing class in Spring 2014, and a class for high school students in writing a winning argumentative essay, slated for Summer 2014.
