Pentagon To Seek $15 Billion In Savings From F-35 Changes

Reuters (1/5, Shalal-Esa) reports that in an effort to save money, the Pentagon will change Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program for the third time in as many years, which means production delays for more than 120 planes.. The most-recent change is projected to save the Pentagon roughly $15 billion between 2013 and 2017 and will be outlined in its 2013 fiscal outline to Congress. Though the President and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will meet at the Pentagon today to discuss cuts to military spending, specifics about changes to the F-35 program will not be known until later this month, sources acknowledge.
